Following Threads
An exhibition by MSUB art students responding to their experiences on the study abroad trip to the Biennale in Venice
In May 2024, MSUB students and faculty attended the 60th Art Biennale in Venice, Italy, exploring artwork under the theme of Foreigners Everywhere. Curated by Adriano Pedrosa, the title Foreigners Everywhere reframes a negative expression into a statement of identity. Highlighting the experiences of queer, outsider, and Indigenous artists; Pedrosa emphasizes the idea that no matter your location, deep down, you will be a foreigner.
Following threads represents mixed media work from seven MSUB artists who bring their experiences of Venice to MSUB. These artworks respond to selected pieces from the Venice Biennale, with each artist offering their own perspective on the themes of identity, belonging and the concept of foreignness. By tracing the connections between ourselves and the narratives encountered at the Venice Biennale, we create an invisible thread that intertwines the artwork that resonated with us into our own personal statements.
