University of Winchester
The University of Winchester is a comprehensive university that offers a wide range of course offerings that can support most MSUB students. That said, it has particularly strong education, literature and history programs and tends to be the location of choice for MSUB students within these fields of study. It is also an attractive destination for students in other degree programs, such as humanities, creative writing, psychology, and business.
The university began with a mission the Church of England had in the 1830鈥檚 to create an institution that would train teachers to teach in poor communities. The university maintains its original connections with the church and still takes pride in watching over the spiritual life and many economic and educational developments throughout the city. The campus is located in the center of Winchester proper.

The University of Winchester鈥檚 academic departments, centers and institutes offer a range of study options within the arts and humanities, social sciences, cultural studies, computing, education, and entrepreneurial businesses and management.
Accommodation
provides students with a comfortable and safe environment so they can succeed in their studies and enjoy life at Winchester. They have options both off- and on-campus.
Both catered and self-catered are private rooms, with shared bathroom facilities. The self-catered rooms are in more modern accommodation blocks in the , which have larger communal kitchen areas for ease of self-catering and dining. The village is on the West Downs campus, which is a short walk away from some of the central services such as the Library, Student Union on the King Alfred Campus. The West Downs Villages is very popular among local students. is on King Alfred鈥檚 Campus (main campus) and is closer to some of the central services, such as the Student Union and the dining hall.
Students participating in a full year exchange are recommended to take self-catered accommodation, as catered housing and catering is not available during the Christmas vacation period. Students in self-catered accommodation are welcome to purchase a catering package if they wish (at additional cost) or use cash to buy meals on campus (except during the vacation period, when catering is not available). Students in self-catered accommodation can opt to purchase a 鈥楰itchen Pack鈥� (cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery etc.) at an additional cost of 拢44.50.
Costs
MSUB students studying abroad at Winchester University pay MSUB tuition. There is a small registration fee. Costs associated with room accommodation range from 拢2,175 (卤$2,780) to 拢2,573 (卤$3,300) per semester, depending on the facility and the semester abroad (fall semester lasts for 14 weeks and the spring semester lasts for 16 weeks).

Winchester Attractions
Visa
American students who study in the United Kingdom for one semester do not need a full student visa. However, you will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). The cost for the ETA is 拢10 ($13). Students who plan to study abroad for a full year, must apply for a prior to leaving for the the U.K. This visa costs 拢490 ($625), plus an additional cost of about 拢776/year ($990) for a UK Health Surcharge Fee. Students must also get biometrics (fingerprints) done for the visa. The full application can be done online. Students should allow at least six weeks prior to departure to complete the visa process.
Health Insurance
To ensure comprehensive and quality coverage, all study abroad students are required to enroll in insurance that is provided through the designated Montana University System insurance provider. Please consult with the Study Abroad Coordinator for further information. This insurance is affordable with a typical semester averaging about $250.
