Visiting professor presents poetry reading tonight at MSUB

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES 鈥� 麻豆官网首页入口免费 and Humanities Montana present An Evening with Juan Carlos Galeano tonight at 7:00 p.m. in Cisel Recital Hall. Galeano will be reading from his poetry and discussing his work.

Galeano is a Columbian poet, translator, filmmaker, and folklorist. He was born in the Amazon region of Colombia. Galeano is the author of a number of books including ,Pollen and Rifles,,,  , and Historias del viento. He teaches Latin American poetry and cultures of the Amazon basin at Florida State University. An academic and a member of the Humanities for the Environment global network, Galeano believes in the crucial role and social responsibility of educators and artists in grappling with the environmental crisis brought by climate change. Whether through his courses at FSU, travelling to give poetry readings and lectures on Amazonian ethnopoetics, mentoring students in their fieldwork and internships, or participating in riverine community projects in the Amazon Basin, Galeano continues to contribute toward the building of sustainable futures in Amazonia and beyond.

 

As a visiting professor to MSUB, Galeano has participated in classes in poetry writing, ethics, and Spanish, along with meeting students in the Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Environmental Studies programs. A screening of El Rio, directed by Galeano was held on Tuesday evening and was followed by a question and answer segment with Galeano. This documentary is his most recent work and was created with collaboration of Amazonians and international filmmakers.
